Eoghan O'Flanagan pulls butterfly guard in the ADCC quarterfinals. He clamps down on his opponent's shoulder, tight. His right foot pushes against the other man's thigh. The crowd leans forward. Something's already happening.

The sweep comes fast. His opponent hits the mat and O'Flanagan immediately attacks the arm. Kimura grip locks in. He extends his wrists, straightening everything out. The back is right there, waiting. His opponent tries to rotate but can't find the angle.

O'Flanagan slides behind him like water. Body triangle snaps closed. One hand releases the grip for just a second to secure position. His opponent's trying to turn in, trying to face him. The clock reads 20 seconds. The grip shifts to the neck.

The tap comes at 25 seconds total. Did his opponent give up too early or was the pressure already unbearable? Could anyone have escaped once O'Flanagan locked that shoulder crunch at the start?
