T. Ortiz breaks down his own match from Pan Americans. He starts in the spider lasso position with his opponent trying a knee slice pass. The gi grips are already set and something dangerous is brewing.
Ortiz shows exactly why the spider lasso puts the top player in a bad spot. One off-balance toward the spider side and the opponent has no base. That sleeve control plus the extended leg creates a window. He inverts through and uses the lasso leg to off-balance his opponent over his head.
The leg comes off and Ortiz spins all the way through. Now he has full control. He removes the lasso, shoots his knee in behind the tricep, and slides his hips under the armpit. The other sleeve is controlled so the opponent can't posture up.
Can Ortiz finish the armbar clean from this position? Or does his opponent find a way to spin through and escape?
