MMA Fighter and Army Vet Test Skills at Gracie Academy
Five days at the Gracie Academy in Rio, and now it's time. Fight Quest puts Jimmy Smalls and Doug Anderson on the mat for their gi matches, in front of 30 black belts. Jimmy's up first, a purple belt against Igor, a Brazilian purple belt who already cracked his arm during training earlier that week.
The first round goes bad fast. Igor gets underneath Jimmy and locks the armbar. Jimmy taps. Igor doesn't feel it and keeps cranking. Now Jimmy's arm is numb, possibly damaged, and he still has another round to go.
He comes back anyway. Arm hurting, pride locked in, Jimmy steps onto the mat again. And Doug's watching all of it from the side, knowing his own match is seconds away, knowing the choke hold Breno drilled into him all week is about to test him for real.
